BIANCO DI BISENZIO 2017

Grape Varietals

Grechetto 70%, Sauvignon Blanc 30%

ABV

14.0%

An intriguing blend of Grechetto and Sauvignon Blanc, Bianco di Bisenzio is produced from grapes grown and harvested exclusively on our estate. Located between local lakes, the unique micro climate gives the wine a cool-climate elegance with the richness of tropical fruit.

About the Wine

Fresh yet savoury, the Grechetto richly expresses Umbrian tradition lifted by the elegant aromas of Sauvignon Blanc. It is a straw-yellow colour. The bouquet bursts with intense flavours of grapefruit, citrus notes and passion fruit followed by floral hints of hawthorn. The palate is flavourful and textured yet fresh with mineral notes that pay homage to the wine's terroir.

About the Winery

After hand harvesting, whole grape clusters are pressed without stalks. Fermentation in steel tanks for between 15-20 days. The individual varietals mature in tanks for 6 months, before being blended, followed by a further 6 months in tanks. Clarification is done using bentonite, a natural clay product. The process and vineyard is organically certified by the ICEA.

About the Vineyard

The wines of Torre Bisenzio combine the history of the terroir with indigenous grapes. Minerality in the soil comes from sedimentary clay and alluvial silt with marine fossils when the land was originally part of the Tyrrhenian sea. The location between the Trasimeno and Bolsena lakes creates a Mediterranean sub climate giving optimal growing conditions for elegant and fuller bodied wines which maintain their freshness. The vines are 15 years old, spurred cordon trained with a density of 5,200 vines per hectacre. The soil is well drained and the vines are not irrigated.

Grape Varietals

Sangiovese (50%), Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon

ABV

13.5%

A blend of the indigenous Sangiovese grape with the Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, from grapes harvested exclusively from the estate. Located between two Umbrian lakes, the unique micro climate gives the wine a cool-climate elegance, a medium body and a long warm finish.

About the Wine

The name derives from the historical tower and festival in the local town of Allerona of Pagan origin, celebrating the Patron saint of the countryside and farmers.

Deep ruby red in colour, the nose has hints of sweet spices, berries and sour cherries. It also has good structure and acidity, dry and savoury with soft tannins and a long persistence.

About the Winery

After hand harvesting, the whole grape clusters are pressed. Initial fermentation for 7-10 days at 25-28C is followed by a maceration period and complete malolactic fermentation in stainless steel for 1 year. That is followed by a year in aged oak barrels and a further year in the bottle. The whole process is organically certified.
